There’s a deep healing taking place in certain people right now, and it’s downright uncomfortable. You may be one of them and currently feel like everything is going haywire and falling apart. It’s like your whole house is being shaken, you feel like it could collapse on you at any moment, and you know something must change.
We’ve all had to clean certain items in our homes. It’s fairly easy to keep the outside of things clean (unless you have kids, haha), and to deal with surface-level dirt and clutter, but sometimes there are hidden places that can only be accessed by dismantling the object. When dismantling items for cleaning, it’s important to thoroughly clean each and every part, examining them to see if anything has broken down, and/or if we need new parts before we put everything back together. You may currently be experiencing this in your own life – the dismantling.

The dismantling is uncomfortable, no doubt, and it may even feel scary. You may feel as if you’re losing part of yourself, like you may never get put back together, or like you’re too broken to fix. Let me reassure you real quick – you are never beyond repair.
As each piece of your life is held before your eyes, you see the areas that need cleaning. You may come face-to-face with faulty belief systems, you may begin to see areas you’ve allowed others to manipulate you, you may find things you didn’t know about yourself because you’ve never looked that deep before. You may begin to see the inner workings of things and why you responded the way you did, and how all the dirt and grime of your past altered the way you operate. The dismantling is a much-needed removal of things that kept you bound and prevented you from moving forward in all that the Lord has called you to. It’s important to not look away and to courageously face these things, no matter how difficult.

God will be right there with you through it all, though at times you may not feel like He is. Our feelings aren’t always true, however. There’s so much that God is working on behind the scenes, but He never takes His eyes off you. Philippians 1:6 says this, “And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.”
Don’t worry. It will not be this way forever, and by submitting yourself to the process and trusting that God is working something good out in your life, you’ll make it through a whole lot faster. God will put you back together, and He doesn’t just put us back together the same way in which He found us. You will be like a brand-new person, complete with upgraded thinking, an upgraded response system, and an upgraded operating system.
God desires for us to be completely healed and whole in every area of our lives – spirit, soul, and body. He once showed me an image of a Bible with the words “Good Housekeeping” written on the front. His Word is how we “clean house.” Ephesians 5:26 says we are sanctified and cleansed “with the washing of water by the word.” As we dive into His word, it reveals the areas we need to clean up and shows us how to go about it. It’s our “Good Housekeeping” manual. It’s also our encouragement when we feel like we just can’t keep going.

During this time, you may also feel as if you have lost all direction. This is the time to really dig deep into God’s Word, get in His presence, and REST. Meet with Him in things you enjoy as well. Do you enjoy creating art? Paint a picture as you talk with Him. He can speak to you through your very own artwork. Do you enjoy writing? Write a poem. I’ve had the Lord take one of my “negative feelings” poems and turn it into a testimony of His goodness, and a message of encouragement at the end. The Lord is your safe place and He will take great care of you during this time of uncertainty. As a matter of fact, He enjoys taking care of you! The fog will eventually lift, clarity will return, and He will usher you out into the next.
