There are many who say a person should send back a curse to where it came from, but there are a few problems with this idea.
1. Christians themselves often send forth word curses without realizing it. When we send back a curse, it’s as if we pick up the arrows of the enemy and shoot them back. When we use the enemy’s weapons, guess who winds up getting hit and wounded? Not the demons, it’s the Christian. We are not to curse what God has blessed, and as born again believers, we are blessed. Numbers 2:12; 23:8, 11-12, 20 James 3:9-10
2. We are to bless our enemies and not curse them (Luke 6:28 Romans 12:14). They’re already bringing curses upon themselves because whatever a man sows, he also reaps. They don’t need your help.
3. When Jesus was hanging on the cross, amidst thousands of people cursing Him and spitting on Him, He never “sent the curses back” to where they came from. He forgave those who cursed Him. After all, they know not what they do (Luke 23:34).
4. An eye for an eye, or in this case returning a curse for a curse, is part of the old covenant and not how we operate under the new covenant. Brush it off! Turn the other cheek! Matthew 5:38-39
Here’s a little something to think about as I wrap this up – How many times do you speak word curses over people that you’re unaware of? How would you like your recipients to respond? Would you like your curse returned to you, or would you prefer they extend forgiveness?
“Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap.” Galatians 6:7
* If you’re dealing with curses coming your way, just DON’T AGREE WITH THEM!! The enemy has no authority over you unless you give it to him. You know who you are in Christ. Cancel the curses, render them powerless, pray for the ones cursing you, bind the enemy from speaking against you, and so on and so forth.
